Sports Works are a hit in Tynedale

TEP are working with Neil Cameron, a young entrepreneur whose business, Sports Works, is a sports and physical activity coaching company providing sports coaching and health education programmes to schools, local authorities and private organisations across the North east. Neil Cameron met with the TEP facilitator before his business was established and has seen a year on year growth in his turnover and profits. He values the support offered and recently said: ‘I approached TEP to help my business grow within the Tynedale district before I had actually started trading as Sports Works and now two years on they are still helping me to improve and grow my business in the areas where I need support.’

The TEP are a community-based project that is managed by Reaction, based in Hexham and run by a panel of volunteers drawn from all sectors of the Tynedale community. They offer a free and confidential business coaching service and believe that, as no one person has all the skills needed to run a business, business owners need to build a team around them so that they can deliver a product, market that product and manage the finances.

Once a business has this management team in place, they have a much better chance of succeeding and growing. The facilitator, Mark Read says: ‘It is great to work with enthusiastic people like Neil. Many people feel they may like to take a risk and start a business based around something they love to do, but often feel there is no one they can talk to in confidence about their plans.’
